Wow! This scan came out much better than I thought. This is only half the piece. The original is 11×14 and shows their legs. It took a lot or re-working the background, and I added more color to the characters in the back, but I’m finally satisfied with the end result (pun intended).
This was a major step forward for me using colored pencils. Normally, I use a lot of white space, but what happens many times with color is the white space and blacks fight with the colors. In this case, the reds and blues were fighting with the Lady Punisher. With the grey background, she steps forward quite a bit.
This is about the most you’ll see of the piece. I’m not planning to do reproductions. It also has me seriously re-thinking how I do the superhero fetish pieces. I want to go large, and still might. But for a piece like this in the future, I’ll stick with black and white, reduce the image via photocopy and do color in Photoshop. If adding color to the original, I’ll more likely do it on press board or canvas and add color in acrylic.
By the way, I am not planning to exhibit at the March 16th Los Angeles Comic Book and Science Fiction Convention, but you may want to go. They’ll have stars from Agents of Shield signing autographs, and Ren & Stimpy creator John K! I may show up just to hang out and meet John. For details, check out www.comicbookscifi.com
