Fetish Art: Batwinged Covergirl

Jay E. Moyes Fetish Art Cover for Blowfish Catalog

So it’s summer 1994. I’m doing my damnedest to sell the 1995 Dominatrix Calendar. I’m going all over the Bay Area, meeting lots of wonderful people and getting well…laid. It’s true, I was catting around quite a bit, but these wonderful adventures led to some wonderful connections.

Such as a few people who were putting together this thing called a web site, for a store called Blowfish. Leather shopping back the consisted of a few major stores in San Francisco, but groups were popping up all over the bay area. So places like Good Vibrations, QSM and Blowfish were the go-to places on the web and by mail, staffed with people you’d meet at play parties and clubs all around the bay.

While now Blowfish specializes in things like dildos, videos, and lube, back then it was the place you could get craftier things like a pride flag needlepoint kit. They even produced their own BDSM video featuring *gasp* two people who had just met over the internet. Who knew this whole computer thing could be such a trend!?

So I did a cover for the catalog. I just had to do a double take to see if Blowfish still even offers catalogs. They do, but I have no idea what the cover looks like.

I like to think the fetish art I drew up looks a little like the friend that asked me to draw the cover. The cover girl would have red hair if the catalog was in color. Then again, I’m a little biased in my memory of what she looked like. The staff did get a big kick out of me drawing their logo with piercings.
