People will ask what is my studio like? Truth be told, I haven’t had a real “studio” in years. Yes, I had a drawing table set up at one point, but I didn’t use it a lot. When painting, I’ll paint in the garage or the living room, but when it comes to drawing, I do most of it on the couch. It just feels more natural.
But even then, I’d say so much of my work has been done at BDSM clubs, bars, or restaurants. Two things happen. One is, when out socially, I have to have a drawing pad or sketchbook. That’s what grounds me and keeps anxiety at bay. The other part is being out with the pad compels me to draw. Like, I’m here, I need to do something.
I think this started at the Xbiz show, just needing to draw something, and of course, I started with a shoe. Initially, I was just thinking black and white, but I keep getting overinspired. So I wanted to do African American skin tone for the foot, and was going to do shoe in pink. But something inside dared me to do the shoe in metallic purple.
And if you’re thinking, wow, you’re gonna fuck this up! You could be right. But I learned something a long time ago. It’s only paper and ink. If I fuck it up, I simply learn and move on. Matter of factly, I’m already thinking of how this is going to look on canvas instead. A lot of the design is solid. It’s just a matter of the colors. I’m just hoping I have enough metallic purple gel pen to not do an art supply run.
