I kept forgetting this piece was completed. It is now on Etsy at https://www.etsy.com/listing/248871464/mature-femdom-art-hello-doggie-bdsm-pet
I’m off in a bit to help at the Antebellum Fetish Film Festival.
Last night I saw High Shine, the documentary on the International Ms. Boot Black competition. It didn’t hurt to have a room full of boot lovers and boot blacks. If you love leather, you’ll love this movie. It’s all about the love for leather and boots and how that passion transcends conventional notions about gender and identity. As someone who loves boots and does a lot of work with my hands, I really dig this movie.
Next up was Cruising. the legendary mainstream film that dove into cult status by setting a murder mystery in the gay leather scene during the late 70’s. This movie was panned by the gay community as an inspiration for gay bashing and murder, yet really was more about a candid look at the scene at the time and the sadistic treatment of gay men by police.
We had a long discussion of the film afterwards. I noted Thorne’s views through Instigator Magazine that Cruising nailed gay alpha male behavior head on. They got the Cruising part exactly right. Which is ironic given that part of High Shine before noted how much gay men did not want women in their space and leather women could not understand why. It’s obvious when you put the two together. The leatherwomen were unintentionally cockblocking and throwing off the energy as the guys were hunting.
Also of note was how much the vanilla gay community fighting for acceptance was threatened by the candor portrayed of the leather scene. Not unlike the motorcycle clubs of the 60’s fighting against the image of outlaw gangs or medical marijuana advocates trying to separate themselves from the stoner sigma.
Gotta roll out soon and there is a lot going on in the next few weeks. I’ll try to do a post with a specific schedule. I have at least 10 paddles ready for art. Every day off has some focus on the garage to get production underway and improve quality.
Hope you can make it to the film festival tonight. Most of tonight is shorts, including the piece on the Dog and Pony Show. More details at https://www.facebook.com/events/532495503579519
