Honestly, I thought I had a post set to auto-update by now. Turns out that is for next weekend, which is the same weekend as the Los Angeles Comic Book and Sci Fi Expo at the Shrine Auditorium. Honestly, I’m very unprepared for this, but I’m jumping in anyway. I’ll bring the portfolios, and prints.
More on the expo in a moment. The funny thing about art as opposed to illustration is there’s a lot of experimentation and study. In illustration, you’re supposed to shoot it out (which is why illustrators and graphic artists were also known sometimes as hired guns). In art, you can take some extra time to try new things, and you’re expected to study new techniques and looks.
So Saturday morning, I’m going through hentai reference material, while watching a cheezy Japanese sci fi movie studying a video. I’ve wanted to do more with kissing, and so I settled on a pose and began sketching something out. Then, it took on a life of it’s own.
This fetish art piece is on 11×14 sketch paper, but the kissing latex lesbians fit in at about 8×11. I don’t have the heart at the moment to cut the paper down. I drove myself crazy for a bit, thinking that I should do this in colored pencil, but settled for ink instead. I’ll add in color via photoshop later. However, I can always go back and try another version of this in pencil. The rubber doll on the right will get pink latex, while her Mistress on the left will get black/blue latex with red trim.
The majority of ink on this is done with a Pentel brush pen. I’ve theorized that brush pen works much better with large surfaces, and I’m right! It takes me quite a bit of breath control to manipulate the brush the way I want it, but the lines come out very sharp.
Meanwhile, back to the comic expo in Los Angeles Sunday, January 5th. While not packing the punch of the 2013 shows with stars from Walking Dead, Gilligan’s Island fans and animation bufs will definitely dig January’s expo. Dawn “Mary Ann” Wells will be there Sunday, signing autographs and posing for photos. Adventure Time fanatics will also love that Martin and Olivia Olsen will be at the expo promoting Adventure Time Encyclopedia, along with artist Tony Millionare. There’s also a big push for the new movie, I Frankenstein. While Aaron Eckhart will not be at the show, co-star Kevin Grevioux will be signing autographs and pimping the flick. Kevin may not be kinky, but he sure rocks a leather outfit. For more on the show, go to www.comicbookscifi.com/comic_program.html
