This has been a great Memorial Day weekend, and as relief, I’ll be doing contract negotiations at the night gig instead of the usual driving. I can even ride the bike over.
Sherry and I have been well fed for the past few days and we’ve enjoyed the break. The big moment was visiting our friends Mike “Movie Gun Guy” Tristano and Leslie Levine. Visiting Mike and Leslie is a great honor, and a huge kick. I read more gun stuff in my high school years than porn. Let’s face it, it was easier to get a hold of and I was seriously considering law enforcement as a youth. I’ve lost count of the movies and TV shows Mike’s crew works with, but the ones I can name off the top of my head are Top Shot, Triggers, Mythbusters, 310 to Yuma, and how could I forget his work and cameo in Bobcat Goldthwait’s God Bless America.
I love talking shop with Mike. He’s always working on something interesting. As an artist, their home is also absolutely fascinating. Both Mike and Leslie work with model kits, and they have a huge collection of miniatures. They’ve done most of the assembly and painting. I spent quite a bit of the day in awe of all the work they’ve done. I never get tired of it.
Mike’s latest addition to the Movie Gun Guy Armory is the Circuit Court Judge by Taurus. It’s chambered for .45 long colt and .410 shotgun shells. Preventing burns to the left hand is a metal guard, something that has been a good idea for revolving hand cannons like this for a long time. What was absolutely stunning was the clean trigger pull. With a piece like this, you almost expect something a little clunky. No way. I don’t know if it came like that, or if Mike cleaned it up, but I wish more triggers were like that.
We ate, we played with the doggies, we talked, I sketched, we met new friends, and caught up with old friends. I had a great time and can’t wait to visit again!
