Three men in black say don’t report this
By 2000, I had been at AVN for three months. I had been exposed to not only a buttload of porn, but also AVN’s sister publication, Fetish magazine. The Dominatrix Calendar 2000 also did not sell well. I took this as a hint that I needed to do more hardcore art.
As a teenager, my friend Stan introduced me to Blue Oyster Cult. When I reached college, I noticed Blue Oyster Cult’s appreciation in the Bay Area sci-fi fandom scene. Songs like ETI, Black Blade, The Pact, and Veteran of the Psychic Wars touched a cord in the community. However, it wouldn’t be until much later that I heard their original albums which included songs like Dominance and Submission, Career of Evil, and the inspiration for these hardcore fetish art pieces, Wings Wetted Down, a song about vampires.
I was hoping to do these in a comic format, and be able to submit them to Fetish magazine or Heavy Metal. Unfortunately, Fetish was sold off to a San Francisco company, and the pace accelerated at AVN to where I could not keep up with the theme.
On the other hand, Blue Oyster Cult did visit Los Angeles that year. I had enough time to whip up this fan art in appreciation of the occasion. While hardly a stadium performance, The Key Club was a great venue to amplify the power of the band and gave fans a great view. I had a fantastic time and it was one of my best memories of that year.
